Worth 300 points
Storyboard Due 6/9
Rought Draft for Review Due 6/15
Presentations 6/16
Final Draft due 6/17 by noon to Avery 309

Overview of Assignment
Working in a small group (3-4 people), you will create a 2-4 minute instructional video for a topic of your choice. This video must take into account the intended purpose and audience, and use rhetorical strategies accordingly. Your goal is to create a video that is polished, helpful, and effectively meets the needs of the rhetorical situation. You will present this video in a 7-10 minute presentation on 6/16 and you will include a memo that justifies your design choices.

Requirements:

  1. THE STORYBOARD: Before starting the video, your group must create a storyboard, due on 6/9.
  2. The storyboard must:

    • Visually tell the story of the instructional video panel by panel, kind of like a comic book. (this is a draft, and it's ok if your group doesn't stick with this version)
    • Consider the following:
      • What is in the frame?
      • Are there any titles or captions? If so, what are they?
      • If there are characters, are they speaking? If so, what are they saying?
      • How long should each clip be?
      • Where the "camera" is in the scene? Close or far away? Is the camera moving?
  3. THE VIDEO: As a group, you will create a 2-4 minute instructional video. While I will give you access to some video cameras and will provide a tutorial in iMovie, your group can use any hardware or software of your choice. You MUST upload the final version to YouTube or Vimeo. This link will be included in your final memo.
  4. As a group, you are required to present your report information in a 7-10 minute class presentation on 6/16.
  5. The presentation must:

    • • Explain the purpose for your video
      • Describe the audience(s) for your video
      • Describe, in as much detail as is possible, the strategies you used in your video
      • Explain any challenges you faced in making the video, and how/if you overcame them (if no challenges faced, no need to describe this)
      • Show the video
  6. Justification Memo. Your group must include a 1-2 page single-spaced memo that convinces me your video is effective. In order to do this, you must:
    • • Explain the purpose for your video
      • Describe the audience(s) for your video
      • Describe, in as much detail as is possible, the strategies you used in your video (go back to our list of video do's and don'ts from class) and why you think htese strategies are effective.
      • Explain any challenges you faced in making the video, and how/if you overcame them (if no challenges faced, no need to describe this)
      • Include ALL group member names
      • Include the URL for the video
  7. Individually, you will evaluate your group members on the last day of the presentation. These evaluations will be confidential.

This assignment is worth 30% of your grade (300 points), and you will be graded on four components of the assignment.
